Driving to Kuala Lumpur International Airport can be convenient, especially for families, early flights and travellers carrying plenty of luggage. But the wrong car park can turn that convenience into a surprisingly large bill. The best KLIA airport parking choice depends on your terminal, length of stay, luggage and tolerance for a shuttle or train transfer.

Start with the correct terminal
KLIA Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 have separate short-term car parks and different rates. Before choosing a parking location, check the terminal shown in your airline booking – not only the airport code “KUL”. Parking at the wrong terminal can add an unwanted transfer and extra time.

Option 1: Terminal parking for speed and convenience
Terminal parking usually makes sense for short pickups, drop-offs or a brief business trip where walking access saves valuable time. As checked on 10 August 2026, the Terminal 1 STCP has a daily cap of RM52, while the Gateway@klia2 short-term car park has a daily maximum of RM55 for the initial days. Hourly charges apply before the cap is reached.
Do not multiply the first-hour charge by 24. Airport parking uses stepped hourly rates and daily maximums, so the published schedule – not simple multiplication – determines the bill. Partial days after each completed 24-hour period may also add another hourly amount.
Terminal parking may still be the sensible value when:
- you are meeting someone or staying only a few hours;
- you have young children, elderly passengers or bulky luggage;
- your arrival is very late or your schedule leaves little transfer time; or
- the extra convenience costs less than arranging two separate rides.
Option 2: KLIA Long-Term Car Park for multi-day trips
For a holiday or work trip lasting several days, compare the KLIA and KLIA2 Long-Term Car Park before defaulting to terminal parking. Option 3: Salak Tinggi plus KLIA Transit
Price-sensitive travellers can also compare Salak Tinggi Park & Ride. The car park is connected to Salak Tinggi station, from which KLIA Transit serves the airport terminals. When checked, overnight parking was allowed and the facility was cashless, accepting Touch ’n Go and credit or debit cards.
This option is not simply “cheap parking”. Your full cost includes parking plus return train fares for everyone in the group. A solo traveller may see a strong saving; a family of four may find the fare total narrows the gap. Availability matters too, particularly at commuter-heavy times, so leave a backup option and sufficient time.
Calculate the whole airport parking cost
Use your actual door-to-door plan rather than comparing one headline number. A quick calculation should include:
- Parking duration: count from entry time to likely exit time, including flight delays and baggage collection.
- Daily caps and partial days: check how additional hours are charged after each 24-hour block.
- Transfer costs: add train fares, shuttle fees if any, tolls and fuel.
- Number of travellers: public-transport costs rise per passenger, while one parked car serves the group.
- Time and convenience: allow for walking, shuttle waiting and luggage handling.
For example, a three-day terminal stay should be compared with three days at LTCP plus the added shuttle time, and with Salak Tinggi parking plus return KLIA Transit fares. Also compare the total against e-hailing, a taxi or getting a family member to drive. The lowest parking fee is not always the lowest trip cost.

- Confirm whether your flight uses Terminal 1 or Terminal 2.
